Great Western Bank Buys 27 Branches: The Beverly Hills-based savings and loan, boosting its presence in Florida, said it bought the Florida branches and deposits of City Savings Bank, a failed New Jersey-based thrift. The deal was one of a three-part transaction involving 102-branch City Savings that was announced last week by the Resolution Trust Corp. In the Florida deal, Great Western acquired the branches and $875 million in retail deposits for a $9.75-million premium.
