WORLD IN BRIEF : SPAIN : European Security Conference Opens

Delegates gathered on the Spanish island of Majorca for a meeting of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe. Italy and Spain are expected to call for emphasis on security in the Mediterranean region, saying that the threat of war in the Persian Gulf has created fresh interest in such a forum. Spain’s King Juan Carlos opened the monthlong talks among the 35 CSCE member states.
