Mandela to Include Soviet Union in Eight-Nation Tour
Nelson Mandela will leave next month on an eight-country trip that will include the Soviet Union, the African National Congress has announced.
Mandela, 72, has traveled widely as ANC deputy president since his release from 27 years’ imprisonment last February. The black nationalist leader visited the United States in June.
The itinerary calls for Mandela to arrive in Paris on Oct. 8 for a meeting with French President Francois Mitterrand, then travel to Moscow on Oct. 9. He will also visit India, Malaysia, Brunei, Australia, Indonesia and Japan.
