European Group Admits Hungary
STRASBOURG, France —
Hungary became the first Warsaw Pact nation to join a Western political organization when it was admitted to the Council of Europe on Tuesday.
Five months after Hungary threw out 40 years of Communist rule, its application was approved unanimously by the council’s 23-nation parliamentary assembly.
