China Strikes Gold Again at Asian Games

China picked up 15 more gold medals at the Asian Games today, boosting its total to 175, which is 59% of the total awarded.

South Korea, with seven more gold medals, increased its second-place total to 52.

The Chinese beat the South Koreans for both the men’s and women’s volleyball golds. In the men’s final, China won, 15-8, 14-16, 15-9, 15-11. It beat the Koreans, 11-15, 15-5, 15-3, 15-9, in the women’s gold-medal game, which broke a tie between two teams previously unbeaten in round-robin play.

South Korean archers broke yet another world record and won both the men’s and women’s team gold medals.

The South Koreans also won both the men’s and women’s handball titles with undefeated records in round-robin play. They beat China 36-19 in the final women’s game and 31-26 in the final men’s.

Pakistan won the men’s field hockey gold medal by edging India, 3-2, in the final game, and Indonesia won the mixed-doubles tennis title.

China’s gold-medal total today was made up of 10 in canoeing, two in diving team competition, two in volleyball and one in men’s singles tennis.

With one day of competition left, China led in overall medals with 329, South Korea had 175, Japan 172 and North Korea 80.
