From Times staff and Wire reports

A bomb exploded at Defense Department headquarters in Manila, where authorities were holding Col. Alexander Noble, the leader of last week’s Mindanao Island rebellion. Hours later, a second bomb exploded outside the Finance Department in Manila. The blasts raised fears of continued unrest after Noble’s secessionist revolt ended on the Philippines’ second-largest island. In the first explosion, one bystander was injured and two jeeps were destroyed. The second bombing hurt no one, but destroyed a concrete plant box.
