Nation IN BRIEF : FLORIDA : Tropical Storm Losing Strength

Share
From Times staff and Wire reports

Atmospheric winds nudged Tropical Storm Klaus’ thunderstorms away from the northeastern Caribbean and sapped much of its strength, reducing the threat to the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico. Forecasters in Miami said a few lingering and slow-moving bands of rain could still bring heavy rains and tropical storm-force gusts to some of the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. But satellite pictures indicated the heaviest rainfall was over the Atlantic, just off the northeastern Caribbean islands.
