Raytheon Wins Pact for Clean Air Work

Raytheon Co. won a $70-million engineering contract to improve the quality of air emissions at two Tennessee Valley Authority coal-fired electric plants.

The company’s Philadelphia-based United Engineers & Construction subsidiary will help the TVA with preliminary design for flue gas scrubbers on plants at Cumberland City, Tenn., and Drakesboro, Ky.

Raytheon said the TVA awarded the contract in anticipation of new clean air legislation expected to be approved by Congress before the end of the year.

The company said the work likely will have no impact on employment levels because the work can be done in stages through 1995.
