WORLD IN BRIEF : BOLIVIA : Traffickers’ Plot to Kill President Told
The government is probing an alleged plot by cocaine traffickers to assassinate President Jaime Paz Zamora, U.S. Ambassador Robert S. Gelbard and others, the head of Bolivia’s special anti-drug force said. Retired Gen. Lucio Anez said he was also on the alleged death list, along with Interior Minister Guillermo Capobianco Ribera and other officials. Officials said the plot was hatched in Miami by former Interior Minister Luis Arce Gomez, who was extradited to the United States on drug-trafficking charges in December.
