Football Scores: Sure, the world is full of “Monday Night Football” promotions. Nearly every tavern in Orange County, it seems, tries to boost business with food and drink specials for the weekly TV game.
But “Monday Night Football” at a Carl’s Jr.? Why not? said manager Rod Barrada, who has launched his own promotion at the Carl’s Jr. restaurant on Harbor Boulevard in Anaheim, next to Carl Karcher Enterprise’s corporate headquarters. He said he proposed the idea to some company’s executives who regularly eat lunch there, and they liked the idea.
The restaurant already had two television monitors. And Barrada had the notion that he could promote Carl’s as a family-oriented setting to watch the Monday night games, rather than the noisy, smoke-filled atmosphere of your typical bar.
The Harbor Boulevard restaurant is one of only a few Carl’s Jr. outlets that sells beer. But Barrada said he has put more emphasis on the 99-cent hot dogs as a way of bringing in families.
A Budweiser distributor provided signs promoting the football games. Barrada found a local manufacturer to supply jerseys and baseball-style caps to jazz up the interior.
The result: Barrada says business is up 15% on Mondays, normally the slowest night of the week.
