NATION IN BRIEF : FLORIDA : Drunk Driving Law Survives Court Test

A federal judge in Miami upheld a new drunk driving law that allows police to suspend the licenses of drivers who either fail or refuse to take a roadside sobriety test. U.S. District Judge Federico Moreno said the appeal by lawyer Richard Essen lacked standing because it did not include someone who had been charged under the law. About 100 people have had their licenses suspended under the law, which became effective Oct. 1. Essen and the American Civil Liberties Union argued that the law deprives drivers of a fair hearing.
