Another Disguised Fee? Gee, How Unsurprising

Share

S. J. Diamond’s Oct. 5 column, “The Charade of the Touch-Tone Service Fee,” touched a nerve.

But the nerve barely twitched. It has long since been benumbed by taxes being called “revenue enhancement,” service fees where services are almost never required, piracies being called “mergers,” and “cartels” ceasing to be a dirty word.

The PUC, GTE and Pacific Bell guessed right. What is an extra $1.20 monthly to most consumers? I write merely to express my appreciation of their delivery in deciding to hide it.
