Riley Came Through for Constituents

Re “El Toro, Laguna Hills to Vote on Cityhood” (Oct. 4): When discussing the public hearing on the Laguna Hills cityhood proposal by the Local Agency Formation Commission of Orange County, one must bring to the forefront what was, undoubtedly, the most important event of the afternoon--the dramatic appearance and testimony of 5th District Supervisor Thomas F. Riley.

After an entrance that was a surprise to those in attendance, Supervisor Riley eloquently spoke in behalf of his constituents in Laguna Hills, asking the commission to act fairly and grant to Laguna Hills the same opportunity it granted to El Toro one week earlier--the right to vote on the issue of incorporation.

It was a wonderful moment and had a definite effect on the outcome of the hearing.

We cityhood proponents, who thought our darkest hour was upon us, are deeply grateful to our supervisor for supporting us in the name of fairness. On Oct. 3, the citizen who saved Laguna Hills was Thomas F. Riley.
