There was no shame in being short and fat in Canada’s Atlantic provinces Saturday as the fourth annual Short Fat Guys Downhill Run took place in 13 cities.

Participants were bused to starting points at the tops of hills, then huffed and puffed down mile-long courses--with hot-dog stands at the halfway mark in case anyone got hungry.

Organizer Gordie Myles, who stands 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 217 pounds, said he dreamed up the run because he was tired of fund raisers designed for jocks. “I told my friend--who’s 5-foot-6 and 270 pounds--that we should have a run for guys like us, short and fat.”

In its first three years, the events have raised $125,500 for the Children’s Wish Foundation, an organization that grants wishes to terminally ill children. This year, organizers hope to make more than $128,200.
