Drug Firms: Four major pharmaceutical companies reported higher third-quarter results, led in part by strong sales growth for disease-fighting drugs. Warner-Lambert Co., based in Morris Plains, N.J., said profit rose 17% to $124.8 million. Sales increased 7% to a record $1.2 billion. Merck & Co., headquartered in Rahway, N.J., said net income rose 19% to $465 million. Sales advanced 17% to $1.9 billion. Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly & Co. said profit climbed 21% to a record $257 million on $1.3 billion in sales, up 29%. Pfizer Inc. of New York said profit totaled $243.3 million, up 12%, on sales of $1.6 billion, up 14%.
