Anti-Crime Measures
President Bush and on down to our local police chiefs and politicians have said that eliminating the “scourge of drugs” is our nation’s No. 1 priority. Yet, I think the so-called menace of drugs pales in comparison to the pain and anguish caused by violent crime. Here in San Diego, a serial killer is on the loose (“San Diego Serial Killings Remain a Mystery,” Part A, Oct. 16). In nearby Long Beach 93% of the burglaries, 87% of the robberies and 74% of the reported rapes go unsolved. Where are our priorities?
It is time that law enforcement returned to its primary mission--that of keeping the private citizen free from the truly heinous crimes of theft, assault, rape and murder.
