The third game of the world championship chess match ended in a draw Tuesday, a little more than an hour after play was resumed following an overnight recess.

The game between world champion Garry Kasparov and challenger Anatoly Karpov ended after Karpov’s 53rd move.

Kasparov, 27, started Game 3 leading 1 1/2 points to 1/2 point in the 24-game title match against Karpov, 39, whom he had unseated as world champion in 1985.
