Soviet Scores Two 6s, Leads at Skate America

Viktor Petrenko of the Soviet Union earned two perfect scores of 6.0 and took the lead Friday after the original program at Skate America, the first major international figure skating meet of the season.

Petrenko earned first-place marks from all nine judges during the competition at Buffalo's Memorial Auditorium.

U.S. champion Todd Eldredge, who trains in San Diego and was performing the most difficult program, finished second. Soviet Viacheslave Zagoradniuk was third.

Christopher Bowman of Van Nuys, who finished third at the World Championships last winter, missed the required jump combination and finished fourth. Craig Heath of Mill Valley, Calif., was fifth.

Finals in men's, women's, pairs and ice dancing are scheduled for today.
