Kristi Yamaguchi of Fremont, Calif., scored her second major upset in two months, beating 1989 world champion Midori Ito of Japan at the Skate America competition.

Yamaguchi, who beat reigning world champion Jill Trenary at the Goodwill Games, landed seven triple jumps in her four-minute performance.

Ito started strong with a soaring triple lutz before failing on her trademark triple Axel jump, touching the ice with both hands to keep from falling.
