Detective’s Death and Gun Control

In response to “The Death of a Courageous Cop,” editorial, Oct. 14:

Once again The Times focuses on the wrong problem. Our lax criminal justice system should be the issue rather than a call for stricter gun-control laws. California already has a 15-day waiting period for the purchase of all firearms and a ban on most semiautomatic weapons. Detective Kuster would still be with us if his killer, a criminal with a long record, had not been paroled.
