Union Carbide Corp.: The chemicals and plastics manufacturer said third-quarter earnings dropped 35% to $91 million, although revenue edged up 3% to $2.2 billion. The Danbury, Conn., firm attributed the profit drop largely to increases in the cost of oil--a key component of many of its products.
