Sportsman Guilty in Shooting Death of Another Hunter
A hunter who said he thought he was aiming at a deer was convicted Tuesday of negligent homicide in the shooting death of another hunter.
The conviction was the first of its kind in New Hampshire, according to local press reports. Last week, a deer hunter in Maine was acquitted of manslaughter charges in the shooting of a 37-year-old mother.
A jury found Richard Low, 48, guilty of killing Ronald Byers, 34, last year in a forest in the town of Tuftonboro. Low testified that his vision was obscured and he thought he was shooting at a deer.
He faces up to seven years in prison. A sentencing date has not been set.
