Norfolk Southern Corp.: The transportation holding company said its third-quarter profit fell 5% from a year ago to $142.9 million. Transportation revenue rose 2.9% to $1.18 billion. The firm said the results reflect a combination of investment-related transactions and increased interest expense on debt incurred to finance a stock purchase program. The Norfolk, Va., company is parent of Norfolk & Western Railway Co., Southern Railway Co. and North American Van Lines Inc.
