FDIC’s Seidman Proposes Changes: Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Chairman L. William Seidman said he has proposed to fellow banking regulators a series of reforms to better monitor bank problems. Seidman told reporters at the American Bankers Assn. convention that the reforms include requiring on-site bank examinations once a year--some institutions may go considerably longer without one--and having full-time examiners inside a larger number of big banks. Seidman also proposed requiring banks to notify regulators when their concentration of loans in such areas as real estate exceeds a certain level.
