Kemper Corp.: The Long Grove, Ill.-based insurance and investment services firm reported net income for the third quarter of $37.5 million, off 33% from the 1989 period. The results include a previously announced $9.3-million charge to earnings to establish reserves covering tornado-related and hailstorm losses for Kemper’s property-casualty insurance and reinsurance segments. Revenue was $725.4 million, up 4% from the 1989 period.
