It May Rain on Halloween

Trick-or-treaters may encounter a trick on Halloween night from Mother Nature: rain.

The remains of Hurricane Trudy to the south and a storm brewing to the north will make for a 20% chance of rain and cooler weather Wednesday night, National Weather Service forecaster Wilbur Shigehara said Monday.

“We’ll notice some clouds late (Tuesday), and they will thicken Wednesday evening,” Shigehara said. “The chance of rain will stay with us through Thursday, and the weather will turn colder toward the weekend.

“Even as we basked in balmy Chamber of Commerce weather Monday and today, the changes were happening,” Shigehara said. Wind changes east of Japan are generating a storm in the Gulf of Alaska that will affect San Diego.

Also, Hurricane Trudy is blowing at over 90 m.p.h. southwest of Baja California and is headed northward, Shigehara said. San Diego could get some rain from the storm as it weakens.

At the very least, the Gulf of Alaska storm will bring cooler weather Wednesday and Thursday, he said. Daytime temperatures throughout the county are expected to hover in the 70s, with nighttime lows in the 50s along the coast. In inland areas, the mercury will dip into the low 50s and upper 40s at night, Shigehara said, and a touch of frost is forecast.
