USC was aided by two 15-yard penalties in its only touchdown drive against Arizona State Saturday in a 13-6 victory at Tempe, Ariz.
Usually, the Trojans are hurt by penalties.
The Trojans, penalized 11 times for 92 yards against Arizona State, have been assessed 73.8 yards a game in penalties this season, making them the most penalized team, in terms of yardage, in the Pacific 10 Conference.
USC also was the most penalized team in the conference last season, when it absorbed 82.2 yards a game in penalties.
Tailback Mazio Royster is listed among the Pac-10 rushing leaders after running for 97 yards in 26 carries against Arizona State. His average of 89.2 yards ranks fourth in the conference.
A starter in USC’s last four games, Royster was not listed previously because he hadn’t played in 75% of USC’s games.
