Air Fare Increase Sought: The leading airline industry group recommended up to an 8% increase in passenger fares and 7% rise in cargo prices to help airlines offset high fuel costs caused by the Persian Gulf crisis. The International Air Transport Assn.’s recommendations, issued during its conference in Geneva, marked the second time since the crisis began that the industry has moved to raise prices. Any increase is subject to approval by affected countries. The airlines want the price hikes by mid-December.
