Teaching Abstinence to Prevent AIDS

Share

In response to “Parents Want Celibacy as Sole AIDS Lesson” (Metro, Oct. 30):

The “angry parents” mentioned in your article did not say celibacy must be taught as the sole method of preventing AIDS--we simply want celibacy presented as an alternative method--and a viable one.

It seems our “educators” are so concerned about creating a “sex-negative” attitude in our children that they just won’t face reality. A “sex-positive” attitude could kill you!

Our society is inundated with the lure of sex (as if we needed help)--movies, ads, books, music, clothing--and the temptation is everywhere. Even with the tremendous amounts of knowledge available on the severity of AIDS, our educational system seems to want to promote alternatives that promote sex. “Outercourse” is the term they use as an alternative to intercourse. (Isn’t this another term for “foreplay”?)

Bottom line--how can we prevent AIDS while promoting sexual activity? We need to teach every possible option--even celibacy!
