Court Upholds Delay of Brando Murder Trial
The state’s 2nd District Court of Appeal issued a brief ruling late Monday upholding a stay that delays indefinitely the start of Christian Brando’s murder trial.
The proceeding, which had been set to begin Monday in Santa Monica, was postponed while officials review the status of Brando’s half-sister, Cheyenne Brando, 20, who is recovering from a drug overdose in Tahiti.
Christian Brando, son of actor Marlon Brando, is charged in the shooting death of Cheyenne’s former lover, Dag Drollet, at the actor’s home on May 16.
Cheyenne Brando, a key witness to events that led up to the shooting, fled to Tahiti a month after the killing, gave birth to Drollet’s child and had refused to return to California to testify.
The appeals court has ordered legal briefs to be submitted by Christian Brando’s attorney on Nov. 13, with responding briefs from the prosecution on Nov. 19.
