Canned Food Donations Sought for Charity

In an effort to help a local soup kitchen and food distribution center during the holiday season, the Cannery Restaurant here will be asking customers to donate cans of food.

For every can donated, the Cannery will contribute $1 in perishable goods to Someone Cares, a charity based in Costa Mesa founded by Merle Hatleberg.

Someone Cares operates out of a Costa Mesa church and serves the homeless and hungry of the area through the soup kitchen and food distribution center. The canned food will be given away, and the fresh foods will go into soup kitchen meals, Cannery owner Bill Hamilton said.

Hamilton said the restaurant hopes to collect at least 2,000 cans of food and to donate about $2,000 dollars’ worth of foodstuff before Christmas.
