The Sidelines : New Street Stock Car Races Set

The International Motor Sports Assn. and Bridgestone Tire announced that they have reached an agreement for a new auto racing series for exotic street stock racing cars.

The series will feature minimally modified versions of exotic sports cars in a six-event sprint race championship to be held on road courses. Race purses and a year-end point fund in 1991 will total $375,000.

The 1991 schedule will be announced next week.

Eligible models include the Acura NSX, Lotus Esprit Turbo, Nissan 300 ZX Twin Turbo, Saleen Mustang, Dodge Stealth, Mitsubishi 3000GT, Porsche Carrera 2, Ferrari Testarossa and 348, Mercedes 300SL and 500SL, and the ZR-1, L-98 and Callaway Corvettes.
