Arcadia : Water Plan Updated

Share

The City Council on Tuesday approved updates in its state-mandated Urban Water Management Plan, including projections of how much water the city will need going into the next century.

The city’s water division by the year 2000 expects to be supplying customers with 19,500 acre-feet of water annually--up from about 18,500 acre-feet supplied now, the report said. An acre-foot is 326,000 gallons of water.

In addition, the update included a statement of what the city has done to conserve to water, including passage of a water conservation ordinance in 1977 and a resolution in 1988.

The city in July started a “Water Wasters” program in which notices are mailed to wasteful customers, the report said. It noted that the city also hands out free low-flow shower kits, leak detection tablets for toilets and brochures with conservation tips.
