THE SIDELINES : German Sets Butterfly Standard

MUNICH, Germany — Nils Rudolph set a world-best time for the 50-meter butterfly today when he clocked 24.39 seconds at the first all-German swimming championships.
Rudolph, a former East German, shaved 0.14 seconds off the previous mark set by Matt Biondi of the United States in an event which is not recognized for official world records.
