French Computer Maker to Cut 5,000 Jobs: Groupe Bull, France’s state-owned computer maker with extensive U.S. operations, said it will eliminate more than 10% of its work force due to a “crisis” facing the world computer industry. Bull said it would slash 5,000 jobs, including up to 1,000 in Massachusetts--its U.S. headquarters--and 250 in Phoenix. It projected a loss this year of 2.88 billion francs, or $511 million.
