P.M. BRIEFING : Camera in Restroom; Sears Sued

Ten male employees of Sears, Roebuck & Co. have filed a $20-million lawsuit against the retail giant and one of its managers, accusing the supervisor of videotaping the workers while they used the restroom.

The suit, filed in Tazewell County Circuit Court, alleges that the manager of the Sears store at the Pekin Mall placed the camera in the men’s toilet in the automotive department, where he filmed employees from the automotive and receiving departments who used it. Sears and the store’s manager, Peter Fauble, were named in the lawsuit.

“The intrusion . . . would be highly offensive to a reasonable person, “ the lawsuit said. The plaintiffs have said that their privacy was invaded and that they suffered humiliation and embarrassment as a result of the filming.

They said they were filmed without their consent, but the suit does not suggest why the filming took place.
