Gas Odor Prompts Courthouse Evacuation
An estimated 250 to 300 people--including judges, jurors, prisoners and attorneys--were evacuated from the Van Nuys Courthouse shortly before noon Friday after a strong gas odor was detected on the building’s top two floors. No gas leak was found, and the cause remained under investigation. Those evacuated were allowed to return to the building by 2:20 p.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Herman Trevizo said.
