President Bush signed legislation Friday requiring colleges and universities to make public their graduation rates, campus security procedures and campus crime rates.

The legislation applies to any institution participating in federal student aid programs.

The institutions will have to certify to the Education Department that they have campus security policies and will have to distribute to students, prospective students and employees an annual report of crime statistics.

The bill also requires that the colleges provide students and prospective students with graduation rates.

As of July, 1993, the institutions must report to the education secretary on the numbers and graduation rates of students who receive athletic-related student aid. That information must be broken down by race, sex and sport. They also must provide this information to potential athletes, their parents, guidance counselors and coaches.
