Stolen Art: Thieves who stormed a London apartment have stolen paintings by 19th-Century British landscape artist J.M.W. Turner and 18th-Century Italian artist Michele Marieschi that are together valued at nearly $2.4 million. Three people gained access to the building Thursday by claiming they were delivering a package, then overpowered the 66-year-old owner, tying him up and leaving with the paintings, Scotland Yard said. Scotland Yard identified the paintings as Turner’s “The Grand Junction Canal at Southall Mill,” valued at $1.9 million, and Marieschi’s “Venice With the Palazzo Pesaro” valued at $490,000.
