GM Adds Two Weeks to Van Nuys Plant Shutdown

Share

General Motors Corp. extended its temporary shutdown of its Van Nuys assembly plant by two weeks because of sluggish sales.

The plant, which employs about 3,500 hourly workers, will resume production Dec. 3 instead of Nov. 19, as originally planned. The facility, where GM builds the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird sports cars, has been closed since Nov. 5.

Van Nuys is one of 11 U.S. assembly plants that are being temporarily idled by GM under a plan announced Oct. 31.
