Duarte : Hitt Resigns From Council
Councilman John Hitt, saying he wants a “rural life on a small family farm in my home state of Washington,” resigned this week.
The City Council on Tuesday unanimously appointed Planning Commissioner Margaret Finlay to serve out Hitt’s term, which ends in November, 1993.
Hitt, 45, was first elected in 1986. He served two years as mayor in 1988 and 1989. He was reelected last November to another four-year term.
The council opted to appoint Finlay after deciding that holding a special election would be too time-consuming and expensive.
Finlay, 37, a small-business owner, became involved in city politics three years ago. She first served as commissioner on the Traffic and Safety Commission, then on the Economic Commission and finally on the Planning Commission.
