How do you have a Billy Graham Crusade without Billy Graham? Use modern technology to simulcast his message to far-flung places throughout Asia while the famed evangelist preaches to overflow crowds in Hong Kong.

This was the strategy that was used successfully by the Graham association and thousands of churches to spread Graham’s Hong Kong crusade throughout Asia. From Nov. 14 to last Sunday, the evangelist addressed crowds of more than 30,000 people every night at the Hong Kong Stadium and an adjacent athletic ground. The crusade was simulcast to more than 30 countries throughout Asia and the Pacific region in 48 languages, to an audience estimated at 100 million people per night.

“In some ways, I feel that I am ready to go to heaven now,” Graham, 72, said at the end of the crusade. “I have seen the greatest crusade of my life, which I never dreamed I would see at my age.”

For the satellite crusades, more than 400,000 counselors were trained and 10 million pieces of follow-up literature were printed in 30 languages.
