NATION IN BRIEF : VIRGINIA : Williamsburg Urges Employees to Retire
The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation is trying to entice hundreds of employees to retire early to ease the impact of a 10% drop in visitors this year. Williamsburg officials said that early retirement will be offered to about 8.6% of its work force of 4,200. The plan, which is expected to save about $1 million, was offered to employees who are at least 55 years old and have at least 10 years of service with the nonprofit foundation. The tourist attraction features craftsmen and others in period costume portraying Colonial life.
