VENTURA : City Seeks Artist to Help Renovate Pier

Share

The city of Ventura is seeking an artist to take part in the $3.5-million effort to renovate the Ventura Pier, the longest wooden pier in the state.

“The city wishes to incorporate artwork into the design of the pier as a way of acknowledging the pier’s historic significance and unique interface between the land and the sea, and to heighten the public’s experience of visiting this special place,” said Carol Green, city information director.

The end of the 1,958-foot-long pier has been closed since 1986 due to winter storm damage. The repairs are scheduled to be completed by June, 1992.

The city has set aside $55,000 for the art project, which will be designed in collaboration with the architect in charge of the renovation, Green said.

Art proposals must be turned in to the city Parks and Recreation Department by Dec. 21.
