Fire Sparked by Molotov Cocktail Kills Man
An arson fire started by a Molotov cocktail thrown into a Watts duplex killed a man early Monday, authorities said. It was the second such reported incident in three days.
Firefighters found the victim of Monday’s incident in a bedroom of the two-story duplex in the 2300 block of East 107th Street shortly after they extinguished the blaze, Fire Department spokesman Greg Acevedo said.
The fire was reported at 1:46 a.m. Three companies of firefighters extinguished the blaze at 2:05 a.m.
The fire was started by a Molotov cocktail thrown into the building, Acevedo said. No arrests were reported.
Damage to the building was estimated at $70,000.
No one else was injured in the fire, Acevedo said.
Early Friday, a Molotov cocktail was thrown through the front window of a house in Pasadena, igniting a fire that injured a man and forced residents to flee.
