Bangladesh Opposition Leader Ousts Militants
Bangladesh opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia, who has vowed to deal harshly with troublemakers in her Bangladesh Nationalist Party, expelled six militant students Monday after a weekend of violence at Dhaka University.
The six militants were among 30 students who attacked opponents with revolvers and sawed-off rifles at the university on Sunday. Three people were wounded.
On Saturday, Khaleda expelled six other members of her party’s student wing. The expulsions have caused a serious rift in the Students Unity Council backing a campaign by the BNP and 21 other opposition parties to oust President Hussain Mohammed Ershad.
