Patrick W. McGuirk; Retired Radio Producer

Patrick W. McGuirk, a longtime producer for CBS Radio, has died at his Van Nuys home. He was 76.

McGuirk died Tuesday of cancer, said his wife Hap McGuirk.

Born Feb. 17, 1914, in Virginia City, Nev., McGuirk was raised in Northern California. He worked as a producer and a director for CBS Radio in San Francisco from the late 1940s until 1956, when he transfered to Los Angeles to become executive sports director for KNX-AM. He handled the sports and public affairs departments at the radio station until his retirement in 1970.

McGuirk later worked as a producer for CBS Radio on broadcasts of Monday Night Football, the Super Bowl and the Hula Bowl from the late 1970s to the early 1980s.

McGuirk was a charter member of the Southern California Sportscasters Assn. and of the Hollywood Hackers Golf Club and also belonged to the Vikings of Scandia.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years; son, Brian McGuirk of Las Vegas; daughters Patrice Blackstone of Simi Valley and Michele McGuirk of Chiapas, Mexico, and three grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight at Praiswater Funeral Home, 5849 Van Nuys Blvd. in Van Nuys, which is handling the arrangements. Donations can be made in McGuirk’s name to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
