Kasparov, Karpov Play to Another Draw

Gary Kasparov and Anatoly Karpov drew for the eighth straight game Wednesday in the World Chess Championship.

The two Soviet rivals are now tied at 7 1/2 points after 15 games.

Wednesday’s 15th game began similarly to the 13th game on Saturday, with Karpov and Kasparov playing a Grunfeld opening with an exchange variation. The position was the same after 10 moves as the two previous games, but Karpov varied his game when he went to a bishop move, not found in any previous game using the Grunfeld opening.

At the 33rd move, Kasparov proposed the draw, which Karpov accepted.

The next game is Saturday.
