‘Broderick’s Landing’

Share

With the Betty Broderick trial resulting in a hung jury, and several other murder trials resulting in the same way, I am convinced that we must take another look at our judicial system and consider doing away with a unanimous vote by a jury.

From my own experience having served as a juror, there are some jurors, no matter how much evidence is presented to the contrary, who will not be swayed from their decision. To expect 12 people from all walks of life to agree is, in my opinion, an almost hopeless task.

While it is true that we have many jury trials that result in a unanimous vote, consider the length of time and cost to taxpayers to finally convince one or two stubborn jurors to see the same things that the other 10 see. I think it is time to revise the system. If 10 jurors agree and two disagree, then the verdict of the 10 will stand.

The thought that Betty Broderick, an admitted killer of two, may be released on bond, boggles my mind. Am I the only one who is questioning the fairness of our judicial system?
