If we do not want to be dependent on companies producing automobiles that pollute the earth, on construction interests cutting down trees, on subsidized chemical-reliant agribusinesses growing the food and on a government sending young men to die for oil, then we need more pioneers like Joseph seeking alternatives to our current way of thinking--of devaluing the universe. Only then may we restore equanimity to our use of resources and technology.
